  1. Things i learned

    - People can make money off of how many likes something gets
    - Media has changed a lot in the past decade
    - The narrator is saying the more likes you get, the better you feel
    - Your digital profile is what now describes you
    - When other kids notice something about someones like or favorites, they start to like them back
    - People can now directly speak to their heroes on social networks now, and maybe get a response
    - Facebook/twitter are valued at around 40 billion dollars
    - Before, people said the only way to get anywhere in life was by hardwork and dedication but now you can become famous and make tons of money through social media

  3. Social media is not taking me over personally, but it is taking others over. I
do not know one person that doesn’t use technology at least one time per day, everyone uses it. You can contact people in so many different ways with a cell phone, computer, and mail. Eventually at the stage we are at, we will have too much technology that there will be no face to face contact. You can contact someone using Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Kik, and Myspace. The future of technology will only get bigger and better.

  4. Social media is in a way taking over kids, because kids are on it almost every time they go on their phone. People sometimes are so worried about how many likes or followers they have. People care too much about if they have more followers or likes on things than others. Sometimes it can be good for people though, because it make people famous and get them sponsors. This way kids can make money.

    2. "If you're not paying for it, you're the product."
    3. "She's a critical part of the marketing plan."
    4. "Everybody seems to be getting what they want."
    5. "The likes feel good, but only for a little while."

    Generation Like

    1) Likes and posts are used by people to show their individual personalities and to show everyone how they are individuals.

    2) Likes, posts, retweets, reblogs, etc. are stored as data by social media websites such as Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter, and so on.

    3) Companies utilize social media programs to advertise their products and services - thus making these social media outlets essentially the radios, advertisement billboards, and television commercials of the future.

    4) Every time you utilize a social media website, you help it gain in value, though these values are not based in profit - Facebook, for example, has been valued at 142.23 billion dollars thanks to it’s wide usage around the world.

    5) People enjoy the usage of things like the facebook due to, “Fame by association” - people enjoy the thought of being famous. Not everyone can achieve this goal, though they can feel like they have achieved more by, say, having a photo up on their page with them and a celebrity.

    6) New types of celebrities have appeared in the world - Youtubers and the likes. People have come to make entire livelihoods as celebrities in social media.

    7) Companies such as The Audience have come into existence to help people grow famous in these social media outlets - acting essentially as both audience and talent agents for the people.

Is Social Media taking advantage of us? No, and yes - No in the sense that it is giving us more opportunities in life in terms of friendship, expressiveness, and even careers. The yes, comes in, however, in the fact that these, "gifts", from the social media programs are run by companies and franchises that base their success off of our efforts and our personal likes.

  9. organizations turn likes on facebook into money.
when a kid is liked on facebook or even followed on twitter it really makes them feel better about his or her self.
many people express how they really are on twitter, facebook, and many other social media sites.
people that are famous on any kind of social media site they will do a video with someone else to pass down followers and like on youtube subscribers to other people that they do the video with and then it just keeps passing down to other people along the way.
some very famous people in the world make funny videos to post online and then make videos of what that person does the best at because that is their talent that they have learned or that the person was born to do.

  10. I think that social media has taken advantage of me because I’m always on the internet. I usually only connect with my friends online.

People become friends much easier online than meeting in person.

  12. Social media is taking over people’s lives because they use the young and famous generation as a way to advertise and promote their businesses and products.

Online, someone gets their identity from what they like and connect with. Once you connect with a certain page or something it leads you to all the others who like that and it describes you.

  13. If you get likes on your pictures and stuff that means your liked
companies know how to turn likes and data into money
young people want attention and validation
kids basically work for free by promoting companies and products
Your digital profile is what describes you

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well yeah I think so. I feel like social media just makes money off of the actions of others as long as they are promoting their products.

Social media can raise or lower self esteem, and it influences everybody who notices it

  15. People can earn money from having their media liked, shared etc.

People enter contests and make fan accounts to get larger media site/celebrities to notice them.

People earn money by endorsing products in videos, pictures and more.

People put hours of time into making profiles and accounts for multiple purposes.

People claim that today, “hard work” to some people is making an account and getting famous people to notice them.

  16. Is social media taking advantage of you?

Yes and no, because people try to do stuff on the internet to be popular and make money.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Is social media taking advantage of you why or why not?

Yes i think social media is taking advantage of us because once you get a like and keep getting more your gonna want to put more up and then you keep getting views and then it will go like a cycle

What happens when the traditional teen quest for identity + connection occurs online?

If we see that a lot of people are talking about this person we are gonna want to follow the person because people are saying they are cool

I think that social media is taking over by everyone one on Facebook is trying to advertise their company or themselves as a celebrity. And if they keep getting liked they can get popular and get themselves sponsors.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I believe that sometimes they take advantage of us but not at the same time. Because you don't have to like/share/repost/retweet on anything. Its all up to you to do that all on your own. It all on you if you sell yourself out. I mean, Yes, The companies do use us as their sole marketing network.

    -social websites are valued
-they can watch what we're doing then give us ad's to what we might like
-people get scared of real social interaction

  27. Does social media take advantage of you. Yes social media takes advantage of you because it uses the information that you don't want random people to see.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I learned that all the social media things that teens participate in are helping others become famous and build up their "likes" in society.

  29. It's amazing to me on how all these people are getting paid from social media. Social Media has changed the world so much and has created so many ways for people to get jobs from it. Me personally social media is not taking over me personally. However I could not name one person I know and tell you they do not use technology. There are so many ways to get a hold of somebody these days. Technology has taken over the world, and eventually is going to get out of hand and the world will not be able to handle it anymore. Technology in my opinion can help the world and solve many problems the world goes through today.

  35. big corporations use kids like us to do their marketing, this is a smart idea because us kids know what other kids like and don't like. although in return they can tract you they use your selfies for dollars. Facebook makes money by adds and selling your information.

  36. Social media is taking over kids lives. In the video I learned that kids feel better about themselves when they get more likes. People can also make money off of videos.

  37. I think that social media is taking over and plays a big role in our daily lives. But it's your choice because you choose what to like, share, post and retweet. We don't realize that everything we say and do over the internet is saved somewhere and that we can't get it back so once its there, its there forever. People find a way to make money off of people like ads and sponsors.

  38. Company's have learned to take advantage of the social media and take advantage of the people who use it, Now if they payed the people they use or gave them a reward of a kind then it might be ok and an agreement could be formed but they don't and instead they just use people and the people don't even know it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. i believe that social media is taking advantage of people because they are using subscribers, followers and other things to be able to reach more people to buy their products, but this is a good way of advertising and this is because it advertises to people more widely to different people than tv commercials. but they are still taking advantages from the people on the media.

  40. large companies are helping kids not putting them down. So they can make money and become famous. It's every kids dream to become famous.

  41. i think it is just another thing that we like to do and also most of us don't even know what were actually doing when we share something or like something. it does kinda take advantage of you but its not that bad cause you and the company both make money.

  43. I think Internet has definitely taking advantage over people. The use of technology and social media has increased in the past years. More people are making you tube accounts and have been getting more likes and followers. Also, I think internet has changed peoples personalities. People are posting pictures of them, half naked, buying their followers. They would post whatever they want, so they get a lot of likes and followers.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well, It is taking over everyone is thinking about it. Because it is basically it like a cycle if you get someone in a famous or like someone page as a famous person then you get recognized then be famous then you do the whole cycle again. Then its getting addicting to people all other world then it is just plant in their brain.

  45. people are going to extreme lenghts to become famous on social media

  46. social media is not taking advantage of me because i would rather be talking to people in person then over social media. But i think social media is taking advantage of other peoples live which i think is bad.

  47. In a way i feel that social media is taking advantage of us but in another way i feel it is not. I feel that social medias take advantage of us because they use our tweets, retweets, likes, shares, reblogs, etc. for their own advantage for their social media website. In another way social media is not taking advantage of us because we can control what we are doing and some people can use the media to find friends and talk to family. - Chloe Campbell
