Too many people are way too obsessed with social media
ReplyDeleteteens are obsessed with their own popularity online
ReplyDeleteThings i learned
ReplyDelete- People can make money off of how many likes something gets
- Media has changed a lot in the past decade
- The narrator is saying the more likes you get, the better you feel
- Your digital profile is what now describes you
- When other kids notice something about someones like or favorites, they start to like them back
- People can now directly speak to their heroes on social networks now, and maybe get a response
- Facebook/twitter are valued at around 40 billion dollars
- Before, people said the only way to get anywhere in life was by hardwork and dedication but now you can become famous and make tons of money through social media
So many teens are obsessed with being famous on social media. Social media takes advantage of almost everyone.
ReplyDeleteNow, people would rather spend time making friends online then in the real world. People will post videos on Youtube without any intention of becoming famous. If they do become famous they get sponsors and then the sponsor's products are advertised in the videos.
ReplyDelete2. Many teens can make a career off of their fame. People can manipulate fame to make money. “Kids are putting themselves out there instead of having people chase them down” is true because many kids enjoy fame and the money that comes with it. 1. Social media is not taking advantage of me, because I choose what I like and what I don’t like. Oreo’s gay photo got 1 million likes. I liked it because I enjoy the content. I watch videos of Tyler Oakley’s friends, but I don’t feel pressured to subscribe to Tyler. “Children have no idea what technology does or is like,” is not true, because I realize what is going on.

ReplyDeleteWhat I learned from Generation Like:
ReplyDelete1.Profile Picture ⇒ how you want people to visualize you
2.What You Like ⇒ part of your identity that is shown to the world
3.Whatever you like ⇒ you create data for yourself
4.People can earn money and other products from sponsors by getting their videos popular.
5.Sponsors use “social media famous people” to reach out to their consumers
People's enjoyment through social media only lasts until they realize the horror of what they did. Once they do, they realize that their life will never be the same
ReplyDelete1.Yes, Social Media is taking advantage of you because it may seem that the average person has power but, the media is taking advantage by first, they advertise people by giving people their stuff and they make money off of them if those people make a popular video. They use the “likes” to their advantage and make money off of anything that is popular within their domain. They use people's desire for "fame" and take advantage of it.
ReplyDelete1. People are obsessed with likes.
ReplyDelete2. Ads can take over videos.
3. Likes can become money and sponsors.
4. All your likes can be connected.
5. Most companies get their fans to market their product for them.
1.Companies are using kids to advertise their products/movies/etc. for free by posting about them on the media
ReplyDelete2.People share what they like on social media which advertises it and makes other want to go and buy them
3.Even by retweeting or sharing a post is advertising and spreading that post so others can see
4.Brands can learn about their customers by looking at their profile, then they create products to make their buyer happy
5. Companies help pay for music videos in return for their product being in the video to advertise
6. Companies sponsor people by giving them money or gear, then those people share their products on the media as advertisemen
People base their lives off of likes and follows.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Matt and Jonathan because maybe this obsession may lead to another bigger unhealthier thing. The companies are using us to promote their products and to do their work. Technology is dominating us and taking advantage of us without even knowing it.
ReplyDeleteGeneration Like
ReplyDelete1) Likes and posts are used by people to show their individual personalities and to show everyone how they are individuals.
2) Likes, posts, retweets, reblogs, etc. are stored as data by social media websites such as Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter, and so on.
3) Companies utilize social media programs to advertise their products and services - thus making these social media outlets essentially the radios, advertisement billboards, and television commercials of the future.
4) Every time you utilize a social media website, you help it gain in value, though these values are not based in profit - Facebook, for example, has been valued at 142.23 billion dollars thanks to it’s wide usage around the world.
5) People enjoy the usage of things like the facebook due to, “Fame by association” - people enjoy the thought of being famous. Not everyone can achieve this goal, though they can feel like they have achieved more by, say, having a photo up on their page with them and a celebrity.
6) New types of celebrities have appeared in the world - Youtubers and the likes. People have come to make entire livelihoods as celebrities in social media.
7) Companies such as The Audience have come into existence to help people grow famous in these social media outlets - acting essentially as both audience and talent agents for the people.
Is Social Media taking advantage of us? No, and yes - No in the sense that it is giving us more opportunities in life in terms of friendship, expressiveness, and even careers. The yes, comes in, however, in the fact that these, "gifts", from the social media programs are run by companies and franchises that base their success off of our efforts and our personal likes.
Worked with Bradley Baldacci.
Technology is here to stay and it controls popularity whether you like it or not. Kids can make money off of social media but it is not very likely. Social media definitely controls kids lives these days.
ReplyDeleteWhat I learned from this:
ReplyDelete1. kids are spending hours and hours trying to get celebrities to notice them
2. companies take what you like and add their products to it so you may gain interest in it
3. likes and follows are taking over teens lives
4. profile pictures show people what you look like and the way you share it tells others how they should see you.
5. some people are earning a living by expressing themselves online and having sponsors
From generation like I learned that teens are obsessed with social media and base their lives off of their followers.
ReplyDeleteSocial media can ruin you life, if you choose to make bad decisions they will be with you for the rest of your life.
ReplyDeleteIs social media taking advantage of you?
ReplyDeleteYes and no, You receive likes and money and fame and recognition from social media and they get to advertise it’s not like we don’t receive anything in return we get what we want and companies get to advertise and we choose who and what advertises with us it’s not like we are forced to do anything. Also yes companies get sponsors through us but that doesn’t mean we are forced to like anything we see something and see whether or not we are interested like I see advertisements but to be honest like most other people things that aren’t interesting to us we ignore. Also there is a #generationlike so. And also friends can tell you things in real life just like they can tell you online so yeah. I have been convinced to go to movies in real life and I have convinced others to go in real life and you can do things and tell people about movies online so yeah there are strings but guess what the strings are in real life too. I don’t know one person who has a ‘brand loyaty’ so I don’t know because I LOVE Tyler Oakley he is one of my favorite youtubers but I hate pepsi I have never bought a pepsi and I have never bought a cool ranch taco. Never heard of kiip. No one died when they don’t get likes the most likes I have ever gotten is 6 and I believe I am still psychologically okay. We don’t make the rules we are the rules.
Websites allow kids to retweet about them, and you win “virtual” prizes to encourage kids to retweet the website so they get noticed
ReplyDeleteThe biggest transformation we’ve had in communicating with consumers is the “like, retweet, and reblog button”
Companies know how to turn kids data (likes) into money for the company
The consumer is the marketer, the consumer is sharing and liking the product and interests other people
Artists and celebrities promote products in videos to introduce it to the public
Youtubers try to get the viewers to interact with them to get more likes
Teens are obsessed with being famous and liked online
5 quotes or ideas from the video:
ReplyDelete-companies use famous youtubers or just people to advertise for them
-profile pictures are used to show how you want people to view you
-cover photos show your personality
-teens are obsessed with getting popular or famous on the internet
-whatever you like online becomes part of you
~Kids care so much about how many likes, favorites, and retweets they get.
ReplyDelete~Websites and companies create new things and post on the social media websites that will lure people in to get them to buy there product.
~Every like, retweet, favorite makes the social media worth more money. You are the one who makes these websites make all these money.
~In music videos brands give them things too put in their videos. When the viewer sees these things they will want to use those products.
~Websites can track where you have been on the web and they put ads of things you like on their website.
I think Social Media websites do take advantage of you, so they can make more money.
I think the social media is not taking advantage of me. i don't go on my phone as much as most people. even though social media is growing on a daily bases it doesn't really change me. I don't do anything different then i would and i don't go on it to try and become famous or to be known, i just do it because thats what people do and its fun to see what people do. i also know what to post and what not to post. most people really care on how much followers they have and if there viewers like them on social media but i don't really care so that is why social media is not taking advantage of me.
ReplyDeleteI think that Social Media is taking advantage of the average teen because the companies we post on get paid more every time we post and it is the basis of most people's lives
ReplyDeleteSocial media is taking advantage of us, but not necessarily in a bad way. They are just trying to advertise. By using other people and videos to advertise, they are giving that person fame, but also reminding people to buy their product. So in a way, everybody wins.
ReplyDeleteSocial media can make a person’s self confidence go up or it can drive it way down. Now, some teens are too focused on how many likes they get and that is all they care about.
Notes/Things I learned:
ReplyDelete1. Teenagers profiles describe who they are and represent their personalities and what they like and the things they do.
2. They said how the more likes you get the better you will feel about yourself and it is like a self power type thing.
3. Some people do these things through videos such as Tyler Oakley, who makes YouTube videos about random things such as the things he likes and what he does. Starting out with just YouTube, made him become famous himself and extremely liked and popular. He is a millionaire in the currency of likes.
4. All of the big companies, such as Google, can track your every move and the things you are doing and posting. It allows them to get as much money as possible.
5. These companies need kids to stay online, by liking things, tweeting, posting, and they do this by allowing kids to be apart of things and include them in what is going on with celebrities they like.
6. Singers who are just starting out, try and get popular people on twitter and YouTube with lots of followers to be shown in their videos to gain publicity and followers.
7. Most of the people who post these things to get lots of likes, and have people like them. It makes them feel good about themselves when people like their things they post.
8. People’s goals are to get sponsored by a company or a popular place because it shows other people that you are worth it and cool enough to get sponsored.
I think social media taking advantage of you because you are promoting their brand or show, and you are doing it for free. So they are getting their brand spread without paying anyone or anything. Also if you see the brand somewhere and has a good ad then you will go out and buy their product. Teens focus on social media rather than getting education.
ReplyDelete1. People are more interested in getting likes than they are having real friends.
ReplyDelete2. Lots of people try to get likes in order to get sponsors.
3. Sponsors of people really do listen to the media, ex. Tyler was sent to the Super Bowl and Taco Bell made something new because of his post.
4. People choose profile pictures that they think will get more likes.
5. Whenever you like something, people can see what you like, and can make money off of it.
Social media is taking advantage of everyone liking, commenting, subscribing, & sharing photos and videos. Companies put products on "cyber-famous" people and gain consumers. The more likes and views, the money a company makes. Companies connect with people by looking at the interests followers or subscribers like also. By knowing that, they can target certain groups. Kids are the center of social media content, and they aren't just sharing the content, they are becoming the content.
ReplyDelete1.The things people like describe who they are and their personality
ReplyDelete2.Websites use kids to tweet about them, and use them for publicity
3.Companies have to change because they know the generation and people are changing
4. Companies use data from kids who use certain websites to make money and sell
5. The more likes a company gets, the more their company is worth
6. Companies give artists things to advertise on the social media to get their products out in the public
1. There are people that watch how many views and likes that a person got on a post.
ReplyDelete2. Likes make people feel better about themselves.
3. People advertise for companies and brands when they like or repost or comment on a post.
4. People get paid for likes.
5. There is a show that is based around what is trending or liked most.
I think social media is taking over the world because people get money for advertising their products and people feel like they need to get likes in order to feel good about themselves. They get obsessed with going on and seeing how many people viewed or liked their post.
“Generation Like”
ReplyDeleteMTV was original teen culture center
We want our social media profiles to show who we are
Boys get less likes than girls
Teens today can communicate directly with the stars they love
We use technology for more than just keeping in touch today
Pop culture is used to sell products to teens and children
Companies use social media to support their beliefs as well
They turn our social media data into money with advertising
“Fame by association”
Kids can act like publicists for up and coming stars
Businesses want audiences to promote their products on their own
They try to hide that they do this
Most kids would have no issue with promoting their favorite things for free
Consumers are marketing
I don’t think that social media is taking advantage of us. I think we would end up doing some of those things with or without social media.
We have new ways to find who we are. It is easier in most cases because we can connect with the people who are like us and find answers for ourselves about who we are.
Social media does take advantage of kids because they turn their likes in to currency. Also teens become famous so they start using their likes to also promote themselves. Teens also become obsessed with social media and they spend hours upon hours on their pages and liking photos and sharing them.
ReplyDeleteI think that social media is not taking advantage of social media because kids like it. I mean we all just watched this video about how they are "takeing advantage of us" but yet how many of us do you think will go home and get on anyway. Or how many we on social media during the video. When tradional teenage qeust for follows occurs they post things and like things and comment. But why is that so bad? It's what we like to do and i am sure that there are people who don't use social media and that is their choise.
ReplyDeletepeople take this waaay too seriously and since they do they're just getting more and more serious. Social media is supposed to be a way for people to interact not for people to make money off of. People are actually making a living off of making youtube videos. So it's crazy.
ReplyDeleteSocial media is taking over us. Some people very badly and other not so much. It depends on how long you are on it and what you do on it. When we try to figure out who we are online it can hurt us or help. Likes usually make up our personality.
ReplyDeletePeople are becoming so obsessed with how many likes they get on instagram or how many retweets that they are not focusing on the more important things in life like family and school. Also people when people like things, the company can get money. People are also too obsessed with becoming famous that they are willing to do crazy and dangerous thing trying to become famous.
ReplyDeleteThings I learned from the video:
ReplyDeletestudios think the minute they show you someone’s pulling the strings to promote their movies people won’t like it
kids help each other to get ahead
you dont have to be an actor or singer to be famous
actors don’t directly use social network
the audience uses social media to communicate
all the adds lure you in
now it’s your consumer is also your marketer
Social media=Hunger Games
I think social media is taking advantage of us teenagers because they're using us as free marketers without us even really knowing it. Since so many people look up to people like actors or YouTubers, we become invested in what those people like, if Taylor Swift likes Pepsi and I love Taylor Swift, I should buy Pepsi products so that I can be like her. This is why companies are taking advantage of us because they know if we like a certain person, and that person is used to represent a product, we WILL buy it. Ok, I'm doing with my rant :)
This post is dedicated to Mrs. Ninfo ;)
Is social media taking advantage of me? No, although I don't use it to much. Social media takes advantage of the people who are directly involved. People on YouTube may advertise, but they are paid by their views of videos. People on others sites, are. They are completely unpaid because they can't see the man behind the curtain.
ReplyDelete1. Companies use kids as a way to advertise
ReplyDelete2. Kids are obsessed with likes
3. Companies provide kids with shoes or sportswear ad a way to get their products noticed
4. The More likes the company gets the more it's worth.
5. Companies use data from kids to make money
In many way social media takes advantage of you. Everything is about being "famous" and getting likes, comments, subscribers, followers. On these websites everyone is competing to get the most likes, followers, and so on. The more you like or comment on things the more money the companies get. For many people they are on these websites everyday and maybe even every hour.
ReplyDeletesocial media does take advantage of you because like it says in the video, it becomes part of who you are. once you get those few likes or whatever, its a start on your craving for more of those. its almost like you favorite food; you get a taste and now you want more. i learned that social media can be a good thing in several ways. one of them, is that you can earn money and so can some companies you advertise. we say the internet is a bad place but in reality the internet is actually the world in a different perspective.
ReplyDelete~Katrayl
Social media has a huge influence of the people of today especially upon the children of today. Many argue that social media has ruined the sociability and real life communication skills of the new generation. My stance on the topic is neutral. Social media can be a great way of sharing your thoughts and keeping connected with friends but if used for the wrong purposes it can be harmful and may cause consequences which are not usually realized by the teens of today. Social media can be used as a mean of empowerment, but the problem is that too many people today are being consumed by social media obsessing over likes and feedback from others. It is important to find balance in one's social life between social media and real social interaction.Overall social media can be a powerful tool by which to interact with people and to communicate our feelings through pictures; posts; and videos and fulfill the deep human desire of interaction with others.
ReplyDeleteWhat We Learned and Our Facts
ReplyDeleteBy: Mikaela Arnold and Sam Faust
Google can track your every move while you are on YouTube and marketing teams are pretty much using a system of transparency in order to get us/teens to buy and sponsor things. If we post something or like a comment or picture on any brand/tile/advertisement to a company it automatically raises their ratings. Overall, it gives them money for our work in spreading their advertisements to get others to get attached to wanting that product or consumer item by a use of transparency. The way I see it, it is like in The Wizard of Oz where there is a man behind the curtain controlling everybody, but they never know because they can not see him… like he is transparent. Videos, pictures, posts, likes, views, brands and other sources to get news out on something all revolve around the supply and demand of viewers and companies that feed off of everything that we do. As long as we have likes and something that’s popular to keeps trends going, then there will always be a transparent man pulling the strings for every line and company.
